Hey, I support your account and the help you offer to artists all over! I was wondering if I could request either to get an overall gallery check-up or a critique on this picture: [link]
Both would be ideal, but if not, whichever you'd like to do would be fine with me. Thanks for your time.

hello
im here cos i need hepl in this pic [link]

I notice that theres something wrong with the anatomy proportions on each one and both as two charactes intereacting. On each one I think proportions and angles arent right at all, on the interacting way, i think they both dont look proportional to each one. I kinda need help, and if it could be a visual help it woulld be really apreciated. =)

thanks

I'm so glad I came upon your Hospital, I think it's a great thing you're doing, helping other deviants. :)

I was hoping if anyone in your staff could help me. I don't really need artwork or gallery critisism. I need help with deciding on a concentration idea to do for the whole school year next year. I'm in AP Art class and we are supposed to decide upon a concentration idea we'll be putting into our artwork for the whole school year. These artworks will be used to put together an art portfolio for college, and I'm just not sure exactly what I want to do for my concentration. If you could just give this to your staff and anyone else who could help in the Artist's Hospital, I would really appreciate it. Just read this journal -> [[link] and send it to anyone else who could help. I just need someone to comment in my journal giving any advice possible, and if viewing my gallery of past artworks will help too, that's fine.

It's a great help, but I need something greater - help xD. I mean, I can totally draw hands. The problem is, that I can't even COPY hands. I just can't. I can't do it, and I cry my eyes out. Geez, I seriously need help, please, give me some, or I'll die, of my tears. It's really annoying, so I'm begging you!

Hello Hospital staff!

I was hoping to possibly get my gallery checked out. :{ My two problems are:

1.) Portfolio development (specifically, creating pieces I can use to apply to an art school)
2.) Facial expressions/dynamic poses in a cartoony style

I just got home from studying art and creative writing at The Pratt Institute in NYC (via a pre-college program), but I'm really looking to go further with my art. If possible I would appreciate some thorough, constructive critiques that I can improve upon. :D Usually people sugar-coat their comments and are too nice...instead I want to look at the negative aspects of my work, so I can root them out.

Thank you so much!

Well first: Hair-I can never get that anime look going. The hair always looks flat and messy, and bangs and curls are my serious weakness.

Eyes- I sort of ok with kids eyes but i struggle to make male and female adult eyes distinctive and i always mess up light reflections.

Hello~! I'd like to check in as a patient in The Artist's Hospital. It seems like I work really, really hard on my pieces, but I just don't have anyone to tell me if it's good, bad, what I need to work on, etc. I'm having horrible Artist's Block lately, so I looked up "Artist's Block" and found your "Nurishing an Artist" submission. I thought I would look into this a little more, and I realize that you guys could really help me. You all seem very caring, and experienced when dealing with struggling artists. I really hope you get this! If you need any information, or anythign else at all, feel free to note me or something~

Thanks alot!

I have been lately focusing on human anatomy in drawing and i have across many problems. I tend to like to draw my characters similar to anime like dbz or like street fighter characters with lots of detail. I have many ideas for my drawings but i have problems exectuting or drawing them. I tend to either make them to big or small and mainly misportionate also problems with fold in the clothes. I ask if you can help me. Im mean like do you know anything i could do to practice to help me over come the problems or betterly understand the way to draw it. Are there any set rules for drawing anatomy?( i know some but it seems not enough to from some of the drawings i did) i have few pics i drew in my gallery if it helps (though they are nothing more than copies of originals, i usually use it to understand how they draw there characters but still have trouble without reference. But even with a reference i start my own then tend to draw the pic i'm looking at because i don't fully understand the anatomy and clothing).

But again thank you and i really appreciate your help ArtistHospital. And a special thanks to you too ADDJenius:iconaddjenius:, lady-lark :iconlady-lark: and aljas:iconaljas: for your advice, i will start incorporate it too when i practice. I need help on everything.

Foreshortening
Shading
Anatomy/Proportion
Clothing
Heads
Expressions
Hair
Tools

-When I try to draw a person throwing a punch toward the viewer it never look right. The perspective is alway wrong as is the proportion.

-I know how to shade somewhat, but I tend to go overboard with it by adding shading where shadows are not being cast. I don't know how to portray light casting. With shading I always use three values (white, shadow, and black [very dark]). I don't know how to transition (gradate?) from one value to another.

I would love to know how to use hatching and cross-hatching effectively. I particularly like opticneuralinterface type of shading [link]

-When I draw the characters tend to look lopsided/crooked. I try to use guidelines, but the drawing still turns out uneven or crooked. My anatomy is way off; I know where some bones and muscles are, but still, my lack of shading expertise, knowledge of how the bones are shaped, and muscles contour to the body just make my drawing look bad.

-I don't know how to draw clothing very well. The way the clothes contours to the body is way off, folds and bulging is hard to depict.

-I sorta know how to draw front and profile view heads, but they look a little off. 3/4 view of the head is hard to draw, and I totally don't know how to draw the head from any other point-of-view (above, below, back, etc.).

-When I draw a face it either has two expressions, angry or is stoned faced [expressionless].

-As far as my hair drawing skills...I have none. The hair on most my character is terrible.

-For my traditional art I use a regular no. 2 pencil and either printing paper or regular lined notebook paper.

I've been using video tutorials from Youtube thus far. I am a traditional and Microsoft Paint airtist; I also use gimp for touch ups.

Help me...PLEASE. X_X

hey i dont really know how you could help with this but i thought it was worth a shot. i have this manga story that i want to create. im confident in my story telling ability and know exactly what the characters are like, their personalities, behaviours and interactions but when it comes to designing them im having a really irritating problem.

i have this image in my head but i cant seem to see it clearly, almost like it's a siloutte or something, so when i draw a character i know it looks wrong, but i dont know how to make it look right or what it even should look like. i mean it might partly be due to a lack of actual drawing ability so i cant draw it exactly how i want it, but it's more this inability to clearly see the design i want. so take my main character for example i know the age i want him and that he should look serious and kind of bad ass and that his hair should go down his face but not be too long, and i can come up with a few cool designs with those features (hopefully that doesnt sound too conceited :P) but they're still not spot on. anyway if anyone has any idea how to more clearly get whats in my head on paper i'd be very grateful. thanks. joe

I'd like to request a full gallery check-up to see if there's anything that's being repetitive and wrong that should be fixed or improved. Something that has to do with anatomy or color, or just anything that sticks out in general. Or if I need some kinda variety!vitamin of some sort. Be as harsh as you want! No pain, no gain.

And I would like to know if there's anything in particular that could help me with realistic face structure. (not for anime )

Thank you guys ahead of time <3 This whole artists hospital thing is really amazing and useful <3

If I could rate :iconartatlarj: 's critique out of 10, I'd give him 100. He really outdid himself and the critique itself spanned 4 pages! He's so wonderfully dedicated to critiquing and to helping patients improve their work. His sense of observation is also top notch, and things I couldn't really see were apparent to him. Anyways, I really appreciate all that he wrote and will be sure to keep his suggestions all in mind when I draw. I've read it all 3 times so far, and probably will read it some more later when I've absorbed most of it in. I'm even printing the critique all out now and keeping it for reference for future works so I can see my weak spots before it's too late.

Anyways, a BIG, HUGE THANK YOU to :iconartatlarj: and Artist's Hospital! Thank you guys so much.

Well I read through a lot of the stuff in the Hospital, and I have found that I actually have a lot of the symptoms that you listed. I have tried many of the "possible healing" suggestions, and some have worked a little, but it always seems like I go back into my slump.

I do critique my art from time to time and pick out things that I feel need some improvement, but lately it feels like I have so many things that I want to fix that I don't even know where to start or how. I almost feel like I'm not enjoying art anymore. Like maybe I'm pushing myself to hard to this idea of where I want to be with my art. I feel like I don't have a lot of time for art anymore and when I finally push aside time to do it I just get frustrated.

I want to enjoy art again because I don't like thinking that doing art is making me feel worse. While I have an idea of what I should be doing I'm not really sure. Should I just keep trying to draw? I have taken time away from art a lot lately and no matter what when I get back to it nothing has changed. I still get frustrated. I have ideas but they really don't want to come out. I do draw things that I don't normally a lot and even then I get frustrated. I have tried taking things from my favorite artists and incorporating it in my art, but that doesn't seem to help. Actually it ends up making me more frustrated, and I'm not even sure why. I'm not really sure what to do about it.

I really hope that someone can give me some advice, because I would really like to see what someone else thinks might help.

I hope that wasn't a lot to read, and I also hope that you haven't already answered all these questions and are only having to answer them again. I hope to hear a reply soon, and thanks.

Feedback: Both :iconartatlarj: and :iconcaliforniaclipper: helped me out with my problem. Not only did they give me good advice that I think really connected with what I am going through, but they also knew where I was coming from. If anything it felt nice to know that I'm not the only one who is or has gone through this and it isn't hopeless for me. Their help is greatly appreciated and I will try the things they suggested to me and now I am more sure that I have a chance to get at a better stand point then I currently am. Thank you so much, the Artists Hospital is something I am really glad I found.

Hello again, I recently (well, a few months ago) submitted my whole gallery for a review here at the hospital and was assisted by some of the staff. I was very happy with all the help I received and would now like to submit this deviation (in case needed, the sketch is also in my gallery) for critique. Hopefully I have been able to appy all I was taught anatomy-wise.

I'd especially like critique on the anatomy, coloring (clothing included) and the shades+lights (I'm not really sure I was able to get a good light source)
