It seems that I can't even understand the simplest of tutorials, like the head raito for anatomy porportions. I just don't understand it at all!!

What's wrong with me? All I want to do is get better but don't really know howand want to improve my anatomy skills. Maybe I'm not cut out to be an artist and should just give up..:/

don't worry - i feel the same way too sometimes. just hang in there and can keep practising  look at some actual pictures and try sketching from there and improving on what you've done. with enough practise you'll soon get a hang of the work

Anatomy is hard. Take your time and don't rush it. Rushing art doesn't comes out good, and I have the first hand experience on that. Practice everyday.

Anyway, it's good to have references. Real references from photos. Internet Make sure they aren't small images, but big. I look at my naked body during shower time just to see how my anatomy looks like. Well, sounds really weird, but looking at it everyday helps me visual how the anatomy looks like (while doing funky pose). Your body might be shorter or longer than other people, but for real reference, it should do the job.

Since I don't really have a model, I model for myself. Like take pics of myself.... >_> Taking your own pics is the best reference. You can even have friends help model for you, like drawing them when they are watching TV.

To help you know how well it took me to draw well, it took me about 10 years (by practicing every here and now). I'm sure if you practice everyday, you can get better in 3 years depending how well you can absorb the information and translate onto the paper.

anatomy is a hard thing to get many great artist still have trouble with it but here are some things that helps me
get out of your room or house and go outside sit relax and clear your mind go some where calming like a park and become a people watcher get some sunglasses and watch people see how they move and when one part of their bodies move does others. watch watch watch

and draw draw draw even if it looks bad keep going then when you have the base done step back go do something and then come back see what you need to fix and do it step away as many times and you need

books books books research research research always look and look go on online type in people walking sitting standing jumping leaping dancing laying down and see how the body reacts doing these things and always always believe in yourself that you with improve !!!!!

good luck

nothing is wrong, don't give up dear~ don't ever think to give up before you did. if you give up then you wont get anything. trust me~ i know you can. This is only a matter of time.

a baby learn from falling a few times and then got up and could eventually stand.

Well first of all, you can't have an attitude that you should give up. That which a man thinks, so is he. You will set yourself up for failure by even suggesting that you should quit. If you get that discouraged each time you want to improve, then you'll never improve. It starts with self-motivation. Without that, you -will- not succeed.
You need a goal, you need the ambition to achieve the goal, and you need the follow through to do so.

As far as understanding anatomy, like others said above, its all about referencing life and observation. [link] here is a tutorial on -how- you can use references to aid your work.

It's taken me a good 10 years to get where I am artistically, you can't expect to be a pro right from the outset.

My main tip is to observe. Many novices have the problem of drawing what they think something should be like and getting it all horribly wrong because they don't actually observe their subject. Carefully look, pay attention to shapes, negative spaces, measure out the distance between bits if it helps, take it all in! Once you've got it sussed, then branch out :)

Stop thinking so much about any particular image
When you look at something, don't try and discern how this attaches to that or how this moves with that
Simply break it down into the most basic shapes, squares and circles
Once you understand how squares and circles work together, you can shape them better and better and better
Until finally, those shapes turn into parts and those parts come together and finally it just seems natural

So in short, quit thinking so hard, one image doesnt mean much unless you want it to and just keep at it until it works for you

First of all, don't be too discouraged- I can't draw well either, just enough to get the point across for a jewelry sketch- one of my incredibly gifted friends swears that all it takes is practice, even if you just try to copy (Not trace, though) another person's drawing. Second, maybe drawing just isn't your niche. Have you tried artisan craft type things? Sometimes another person's gift is one thing and ours is another :)

I'm experiencing the same thing. The difference is that it's actually true for me, and unlike myself you already have some talent to work from. I can see the areas that you'd like to improve on, but you're already almost there.

All you need is something like [link] and you should be off once you calm down :)
